Speak Up: Write or Call Your Senators and Tell Them to Keep EV and Clean Energy Incentives and Credits
The U.S. Senate leadership plans to pass an unacceptable bill by July 4 that eliminates EV incentives and adds a yearly EV tax, while accelerating fossil fuel permitting and keeping oil and gas subsidies.
Take action to tell your senators to vote NO on the budget reconciliation bill.
The budget bill in the Senate guts EV incentives and actively punishes EV drivers according to Plug In America by:
Eliminating nearly all EV tax credits while keeping fossil fuel subsidies.
Making job-creating EV and battery manufacturing tax credits impossible to use.
Freezing EV investments and redirecting funds to tax credits for billionaires.
Adding an EV tax of up to $500 per year per car on EV drivers and up to $250 per year on hybrid drivers!
Eliminating penalties for not complying with money-saving fuel-economy standards (a.k.a. CAFE standards).
Let’s be clear. This bill will kill jobs, increase household energy costs, and make EVs more expensive to buy and drive, all to fund tax cuts to billionaires and subsidize fossil fuel interests.
Let your Senator know that there are over 6 million EV drivers across the United States who vote. We want clean air and good jobs, and we don’t want to spend our hard-earned money on oil and gas. We want to save money while growing our economy and strengthening American energy security.
Speak up now! EVA members and supporters can send an email with our simple form or call (script below). You can email or call your state’s senators daily until they vote on the bill to communicate how essential EVs are. Every communication counts in defending the tax credits and stopping the annual EV tax. Clicking the “email now” button will take you to a tool developed by our partner, Plug In America.

Hi, my name is _____ and I’m calling from [city, ZIP code]. As your constituent, I am asking you to oppose the budget reconciliation bill because it punishes EV drivers by eliminating EV and clean energy tax credits and keeping fossil fuel subsidies. EVs save American drivers money, and the tax credits create jobs. The EV tax credits are carefully designed to help those who need them and build American manufacturing. Plus, adding new EV taxes punishes clean vehicle drivers. Thank you.
