Unique, User-Informed Perspective
The Electric Vehicle Association supports policies that accelerate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in ways that are practical, equitable, and grounded in real-world consumer experience.
As a national network of EV drivers and advocates, EVA brings a unique, user-informed perspective to policy discussions, focused on reducing barriers to adoption, expanding access to reliable charging, and ensuring that EV ownership is convenient and accessible for a broad range of drivers.
Our Policy Priorities
EVA prioritizes policy areas where member experience and education can meaningfully inform outcomes.
This includes advancing EV-ready building codes so that new residential and commercial developments are equipped for future charging needs, supporting the buildout and reliability of charging infrastructure, and promoting clear, accurate consumer information about EV ownership.
EVA also supports time-bound and well-designed incentives that help bridge upfront cost gaps and accelerate market adoption, while recognizing the importance of long-term market sustainability.
Balanced and Pragmatic
At the same time, EVA approaches policy with a balanced and pragmatic lens.
The organization recognizes the importance of sustainable transportation funding and supports equitable road-use contributions (EV fees) that are consistent with what gasoline vehicle drivers pay.
EVA supports EV fees or taxes that are transparent, fair, and comparable to those applied to gas vehicles, while opposing excessive or disproportionate fees that could slow adoption.
More broadly, EVA does not support policies that create unnecessary barriers to EV adoption, limit access to charging, or introduce confusion for consumers.
EVA aims to provide constructive, nonpartisan input grounded in the real-world experience of EV drivers.

EV-ready building codes and forward-looking infrastructure planning
Expansion and reliability of public and private charging
Clear, accurate consumer education and transparency
Fair application of registration or road use fees in line with what the equivalent gasoline powered car would pay, but not punitive fees.
Time-bound, well-designed incentives to accelerate adoption
Promote growth and availability of charging infrastructure
Promote growth and availability of affordable EVs
Open standards and interoperability
Bi-directional charging, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies
We Generally Oppose
Disproportionate or punitive EV fees and taxes
Policies that limit or complicate access to charging
Inconsistent or confusing regulations for consumers
Barriers that slow EV adoption or increase cost unnecessarily
When We Remain Neutral
or Have No Comment
Policy issues that extend beyond EVs and charging
Infrastructure (ex: renewable energy, exact electrical structure of buildings, or in-depth electrical codes)
Direct sales vs. franchise dealer sales models
Promote a specific brand to consumers (we will remain brand neutral for EV consumer education; we will be able to take on sponsorships, as long as our education materials remain brand neutral)
