Charge at Home with Confidence: Residential EV Programs in Massachusetts and Upstate New York
Meet Our Business Member: National Grid
How National Grid can help households install home charging and save by charging off-peak:
For those thinking about going electric—or making home charging easier and more affordable, National Grid offers residential EV programs in Massachusetts and Upstate New York designed to help customers install home charging and lower fueling costs by shifting charging to off-peak times.
In Massachusetts, National Grid can assist customers in two main areas:
Helping to upgrade home charging - To make charging at home more convenient, there are programs that support installing a 240-volt circuit or a Level 2 charger where the EV is parked, with streamlined options for customers on the Discount Rate (R-2) or living in Environmental Justice communities.
Rewards for smart charging habits. Through the Off-Peak Charging Program (available via the Charge Smart MA app), eligible customers can earn bill credits by charging during designated off-peak hours.
For those who live in single-family homes in Massachusetts and plan to use the turnkey path, they can enroll in the Off-Peak Charging Program as part of the installation process.
Renters and landlords of 2- to 4-unit properties in Massachusetts may have specific pathways that reduce barriers to installing shared or unit-specific charging.
This managed charging approach helps save on electric bills while supporting grid reliability. These offerings include both a traditional rebate path and a turnkey installation path that applies incentives up front to reduce out-of-pocket costs. Many customers also combine utility programs with state incentives to reduce the total cost of going electric.
Program availability and eligibility requirements can change. Before purchasing equipment or starting installation, customers are encouraged to visit National Grid Massachusetts EV program pages to review the latest details, confirm their eligibility, and see which incentives and options fit their home and budget.
Current Commercial EV Charging Station Installation incentives are also available in MA through December 2026. To view current commercial incentives available visit ngrid.com/ma-evcharging.
In Upstate New York, the emphasis is on saving by charging at the right times and connecting residents to broader incentives.
The Charge Smart NY Plan can help reduce EV charging costs when shifting charging to off-peak periods. Customers can use the Charge Smart NY Plan and statewide programs to receive available incentives and tools making it easier to go electric. Together, these options help households manage charging costs and make the most of their EV.
