Meet our EV Advocate of the Year, Karl Bloss!
Since arriving in Michigan in 2018, Dr. Karl Bloss has become a force to be reckoned within the state's burgeoning EV landscape. His dedication and tireless advocacy have earned him a well-deserved reputation as a prominent champion for clean transportation in this crucial hub of the automotive industry.
Bloss's impact began with the founding of the West Michigan EV and Plug-In Vehicle Enthusiasts group on Facebook. This online community quickly blossomed into the state's most comprehensive platform for EV enthusiasts, fostering communication, knowledge sharing, and a sense of shared passion among Michigan's EV drivers. He has shared his electric motorcycle and auto trips on social media for years.
Recognizing the power of collaboration, Dr. Bloss played a pivotal role in uniting several smaller EV groups to form the second EVA chapter in Michigan. This not only strengthened the EV community in the western part of the state but also solidified bridges with fellow advocates on the eastern side, paving the way for a more united front in promoting EVs across the entire state. Following his retirement from a successful career in the chemical industry, Dr. Bloss took on a new mission – educating and empowering the public about EVs. In 2020, he joined one of Michigan's largest public utility companies as their Electric Vehicle Education and Outreach Coordinator.
In this role, he has become a familiar face at events throughout the state. Equipped with a wealth of real-world EV experience and a genuine passion for sharing knowledge, he caters to audiences of all levels, from curious newcomers to seasoned EV enthusiasts. His presentations, workshops, and engaging interactions have played a crucial role in demystifying EVs and sparking a broader adoption across Michigan. His commitment to EVs extends beyond mere education. Recognizing the importance of fostering a sense of community among EV drivers, he has organized a long-running series of social events. These gatherings offer opportunities for EV enthusiasts to connect, share experiences, and build a supportive network that goes beyond the virtual realm.
Dr. Bloss's contributions to Michigan's EV landscape are undeniable. His tireless efforts have not only raised awareness and understanding of EVs but have also fostered a vibrant and supportive community of EV advocates. His story is one of dedication, passion, and a commitment to building a cleaner future for Michigan, one electric vehicle at a time. All of these reasons are why we chose him to be our EV Advocate of the Year. Karl now can look forward to his upcoming retirement from Consumers Energy (this Friday, March 1st) while he will continue his EV education and outreach efforts for the SW Michigan EVA chapter.
