Scottsdale EVA Treasurer Featured in New York Times

We're excited to share that one of our own members and treasurer from the Scottsdale EVA, Rachel Culin, sat down to an interview with reporters from the New York Times to do an article on how Toyota, as "a Hybrid Pioneer, Struggles to Master Electric Vehicles."

The article is a headlining piece for our push to hold automakers like Toyota accountable and gives readers around the world an insight into how they're lagging behind in the EV race, while alienating some customers who supported them because of products like the Prius. The Times reached out to us about the slow rollout of EVs by Toyota, and how it was affecting those that were the “early adopters” in hybrids, popularized by the Prius. With many EVA members invested in more environmentally friendly choices then (like the Prius) it was only natural that they came to us looking for the opinions and facts from those that have moved on from Toyota since. With only the bZ4X in the lineup as a full EV, many of those previously supportive of Toyota are now becoming frustrated with their slow rollout. Competitors like Hyundai/Kia, Ford, and VW Group have surpassed their offerings in the EV space.

Rachel talks about how the Bolt is the logical replacement for their Prius, given it meets their needs for price, size, and range. Toyota, not offering anything in the same class, has lost their lead here, even though they’ve built a reputation for building reliable, long lasting vehicles with some of the highest brand loyalty in the business. Rachel asks: “Where are the options for those people that love Toyota?” At the moment, there are none…from the world’s largest automaker, at least.
