Home charging made (very) simple

EVA High Voltage business member NeoCharge cuts the cost of home EV charging installation by thousands.

NeoCharge Smart Splitter

Start-up NeoCharge has developed a Smart Splitter designed specifically for electric vehicles (EVs).

The product splits a 240v outlet between an EV and an appliance such as a used washer/dryer, or between two EVs… and then manages the charging.

“Our technology allows EV drivers to avoid spending the thousands of dollars it takes to get a panel upgrade for EV charging at home,” said NeoCharge cofounder Spencer Harrison, who along with cofounder and CTO Akhil Veluru, developed the concept as a senior project in California at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. “As long as there’s a 240v outlet within reach of the car, you can self-install charging in just a few minutes and the Smart Splitter handles the power switching for you.”’

Coming in 2023 is NeoCharge Connect, a new app that will automatically optimize home EV charging for off-peak periods and time intervals where a higher percentage of renewable energy is used. Upon signing-in, the EV driver will be able to connect the app to their EV and utility account in order to optimize charging for cost and carbon emissions.

“On top of all this, you’ll be able to accurately track energy costs and get reports on charging to truly understand your home energy usage,” said Harrison, noting those wishing early access to the platform should join the waitlist here.

Lowering the barrier for electrification

Harrison explained that NeoCharge’s goal has always been to enable home EV charging access, hence the development of a ‘plug and play’ product that can be installed without hiring an electrician.

“We were seeing a lot of people needing a very expensive retrofit to their homes for charging access, and home renters and folks in low-income housing who weren’t able to install charging even if they wanted to,” he said. “We wanted to provide options for effortless installation of charging, lower utility bills, and the option for greener EV charging.”

“Instead of needing an electrician, you can safely and easily share your existing 240v dryer or EV charger outlet for the faster charging access you deserve.”

Harrison emphasized that NeoCharge comes with a 2-year warranty and is UL Certified with world class safety. “The Smart Splitter will never overload your 240v circuit as it has auto switching built in for safety,” he said.
